Run Victoriously

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge cloud of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." - Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)

Training and discipline entail intentional decisions. So we must be intentional with our thoughts and prayers. This is part of a spiritual discipline. We are to have renewed minds. That means throwing the weight of negative thoughts that slow us down, especially the lies the enemy throws at us that so easily trip us up. Only then can we run freely, doing what God has called us to do.

There have been so many Christians who have had victories in living the life of faith. Won't you be one?

I have hope

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." - Romans 15:13

To despair is to lose hope. SO I will not despair, though I hurt, though I may mourn.

My brain sometimes has chemical imbalances which make me tend to think I can either do any and everything that I can do nothing and have no hope.

I will fight back against this with the truth that I am nothing without God and the truth that God has a good and perfect plan for me.

The enemy's way to deal with pain is to despair, but this is not God's way. I must align my thoughts to His truth in order to escape falling into this pit.

I have a hope and a future in the One who made me with a good and perfect plan for me to live out. Through Him, I can be victorious.

He will sustain

"Cast on the Lord whatever He sends your way, and He will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." - Psalm 55:22 (ISV)

There is so much in life I cannot bear, and if I try, I will most likely wind up dead or seriously hurt because my brain may respond with self harm thoughts or suicidal ideation. But no one can, nor should, have the weight of it all on their own shoulders. Not when you have Almighty God offering to take it on His shoulders, come alongside you and see you through.

How do we accomplish this? By surrendering through prayer. Surrendering our hold of the pain or burden or whatever it is. Surrender our thinking that we can or should or must handle it all on our own.

When my anxieties build up, I picture Jesus there with me. I envision God putting His arms around me to love and protect me. I give it all, my burden, my anxieties, my pain, to God Almighty.

I Believe

"Jesus said, Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed." - Matthew 8:13

Some people may think everything can be healed through faith. And healing can happen, but what if it doesn't? I believe faith can be strong, probably the strongest when it does not come, because now one has to have enough faith to rest in God's will and not their own.

As Jesus prayed "Let this cup be taken from me, but not my will but Yours be done" may I pray likewise. Jesus did not avoid suffering, nor did He come to vanquish it from the earth. Instead, He became part of a suffering world and allows it to continue.

And suffering draws people toward Him time and time again. Persecution leads to revival time and time again. Trials can lead to greater faith. So what we need is not the absence of pain and suffering, but faith to trust and grace to endure.

Why?

"Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, my Help and my God." - Psalm 42:5

When I am so low, I do not even feel worthy of life, I turn to Him who gives me worth. I fight back against my own mind and strive to take my thoughts captive, through His strength, filtering my thoughts through His truth.

When my spirit moans and cannot take any more, he is my Help. I can cease striving on my own and realize He is God. He is all-powerful. He is in charge. And He has good plans for me.

His purpose can take the worst things in my life and use them for His glory as I touch the lives of others with my story. So I trust in Him. I hope in Him. I wait expecting Him to do a mighty work in me.

Who needs to hear your story?

Conquerors

"But in al these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us." - Romans 8:37

He loves us. He wants only good for us, for me.

It is not that God would put a stop to my pain if I had enough faith; it is that God would put a stop to anything in my life that did not have a glorious purpose. His plans for me are good.

And though I may fail along this path He has chosen for me, that does not make me a failure.

I only truly fail when I give up. . .give up on trying, give up on seeking, give up on praying . . . for through Him, I am more that a conqueror.

Through Him, I am no longer condemned. Through Him, I will not be defeated. And through Him, I can do all things.

You have the hope that you can conquer whatever ails you. You don't have to let it get the best of you. You can be victorious through the pain, through the sadness, through the struggle. He wants you to be all He made you to be. If it helps, keep a record of each small victory. It may be as simple as taking a shower today, or as big as confronting someone who has hurt you, maybe putting up boundaries or not making them a part of your daily life and keeping a safe distance from them for the sake of your well being. Sometimes we have to take the step of taking care of ourselves, and in that we will find strength to take another step.

My Help

"But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God." - Psalm 40:17

You are my help. And oh, how I need help! God's faithfulness is what has brought me through. He did not give up on me even when I gave up. I wanted my life to end, and He wanted to give me a fresh start.

Now I know, He is good. Now I know He is here, beside me.

Though I may not know why I suffer, I know Your grace abounds and sees me through.

I will proclaim Your work in my life, God. How Your goodness and faithfulness have changed me forever and saved my life.

If you are wanting or thinking about ending your life, do not hesitate to seek help. God wants more for your life than you can even imagine right now. You have purpose, you are loved, and you will see brighter days. You are not beyond hope, you are not beyond help, you are not beyond the point of no return.

Depression does not have to win. There is freedom and healing found in our Savior. You may not get better over night, but He is with you on the journey upward toward recovery and stability. He offers a better quality of life than what you have now.

What is Good

"Yes, the Lord will give what is good" - Psalm 85:12

I must trust God has made me the way I am for a purpose, for His glory. I am called to be victorious, but victory means there will be battles and struggles. May I not be discouraged or dismayed by them, though, for the Lord is with me.

If God's glory is found through my suffering, then so be it. I still believe in healing, but moreover, I believe in His goodness no matter what the circumstance may be.

How could I have learned to trust Him without hard times? How could I grasp unconditional love and forgiveness without the hurt caused by others?

You, oh Lord, truly do give me what is good for me. May You be glorified.

In your trust journal, if you decided to make one, be sure to record the good things God gives and His blessings He shows to you each day, no matter how small. Remain thankful for the small things and God may just give you bigger and better things to be thankful for, giving Him the praise and glory for His work in your life. For why would God give us bigger and better things when we are not even grateful for the portion He is giving us today?

No Fear

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you . . . I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you." - Isaiah 43:1-2

I am His. He is with me, He is for me, and He is ever by my side.

He is at work in my life. In my heartache in and in my weakness, He is ever at work.

I will not fear, because He is for me. Whatever I go through, He will never leave me. Whatever I do, He will never give up on me.

I focus my eyes on Him and trust in Him.

You do not need to live in fear because God has you in His hands. He will not let us be destroyed. We can overcome our anxiety through Him by learning to trust Him. This is a process that takes time. Start trusting God with the small things and little by little we will learn to trust God more and more with bigger and bigger things. Then we can have His peace upon us that keeps anxiety at bay, keeping our eyes fixed on Him.

What is one thing you can trust God with today? Try to make it simple, but don't forget it by tomorrow. We learn to trust more by remembering God's faithfulness in the simple and small things from days past. Maybe you can start a journal of God's faithfulness in your life?

What is in my heart?

"For out of the fullness of the heart, the mouth speaks."
- Matthew 12:34

How do I know what is in my heart? By what is coming out of my mouth.

Am I spitting out venomous words of anger or criticism? Or am I sharing words of wisdom and love?

Only looking to the Lord, seeking His truth and abiding in Him will change what is in my heart. Only He can renew my mind.

I can reflect on the pains and troubles of my past without dwelling on the negative thoughts and letting them consume me.

When I put my struggles through the sifter of God's truth, then I can see what happens in my life through His eyes. I may not understand, but I will know the truth about it.

And the truth is, God gives good things and God can use even the worst things in our lives for good, for His glory. The truth is that God will see us through and make our faith stronger on the other side of struggles and trials and pain. The truth is that God can make our heart and mind renewed every day, fresh without being entrapped in lies or guilt.

Let God renew you today by spending time with Him in His Word and in prayer.

Let Me Ask

"You do not have because you do not ask." - James 4:2 (NKJV)

If I but ask God to enlighten me to His vision, His plan for me, His will - He is ready to do just that. He is eager to fill my mind with truth. He is simply waiting for me to ask for help - to turn to Him saying "I cannot do this on my own."

Do I want to be full of His light, His vision, His truth? Then let me ask! Am I weary of trying to serve or fight in my own strength? Then let me ask! Am I struggling to keep in a constant fellowship with Him? Let. Me. Ask.

Lord, help me. I want to just overflow with abundance of little things that bring joy to Your heart. This is Your vision for me this day.

His Plans

"For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and future." - Jeremiah 29:11

God's plans for me do not include my being stuck in a pit of negativity. Dwelling on the negative, not just acknowledging it, but dwelling solely on all that is negative in my life is not a plan God has for me. Scripture says to think on good things, to remain thankful, to fill our hearts with praise.

Even when there is something chemically wrong with the brain, I believe fighting back the lies with positive truth is vital to ever getting better. It may not be the medical cure, but it is vital to recovery.

God's plans for me means my doing something good with everything brought into my life. Hard times, hard people, hard places . . . what will I do with what He brings? This also goes for blessing and joys. Will I give Him praise in every circumstance?

In Truth is Freedom

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor, He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are down trodden." - Luke 4:18

What sets us free? Jesus said truth sets us free.

I have believed lies. Lies about who I am. Lies that lead to worry and fear. Lies that put doubt in my mind about Truth.

But now I see, Jesus came to set me free. Free from the strongholds the enemy has set up in my mind. Free from the lies that bring me down. Free from the control my broken mind has over me.

I will no longer be down trodden. I find new mercies each day as I walk with Him.

How do we combat the lies and find freedom? By knowing and dwelling on the Truth. What truth or truths can you focus on today? Maybe one of the affirmations I wrote in the previous post? Or maybe a Scripture truth you read today? It is essential to saturate your mind with truth if we are to be free from the stronghold of lies.

Controlled Thinking

"We are destroying speculations, and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ." - 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NASB)

Impulsivity has tossed me to and fro. Lies I have fallen prey to have all but destroyed my life. Oh, if I would take every thought captive! If I would fight back the lies with the truth of God's Word! Then I would be established, like the tree in Psalm 1, planted and prospering.

"Understanding will watch over you" (Psalm 2:11b) I can be guarded by gaining wisdom

What lies are you believing in your mind today? Are they lies of worry and doubt? Because God has you in His hands. Are they lies you are not good enough? Because God did not make a mistake when He created you. The more I study God's Word, the more I realize I have been listening to lie after lie about myself. Will you join me in fighting against these strongholds today? Your mind will be forever thankful for each step taken toward better mental health.

I Have Hope

"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe." -Ephesians 1:18-19 (NASB)

I have hope.

I have the hope of His calling. He called me. He called me to be His child. He chose me. He loves me. I am called to do goos works for His glory. I am called to pick up my cross and follow Him.

And with this calling is hope. Hope because I have purpose in this life and treasures stored up in my eternal home to which He will take me one day.

I rest in this hope.

Positive affirmations you can write down and read each day:

I have hope.
I am called.
I am chosen.
I am loved.
I have purpose.

A Pile of Troubles

"Pile your troubles on God's shoulders--He will carry your load, He will help you out. He will never let good people topple into ruin . . . I trust in God." -Psalm 55:22-23 (MSG)

"What a Friend we have in Jesus. All our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit, oh, what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer."

-Hymn by Joseph Scriven

Maybe God gives me more than I can bear so He can be glorified as He takes the burdens off my shoulders? His yoke is easy and His burden is light. I do not have to face this life alone, nor was I made to.

We are told we will have trouble in this world, but to take heart, because Christ has overcome the world. He is our strength and our help.

Strengthened in Faith

"Yet Abraham did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He had promised." - Romans 4:20-21

Broken dreams and broken promises lead to broken hearts.

However, God never breaks His promises, and His ways and thoughts are so much higher than ours. When He allows dark times to sweep over my life, I prayer I do not waver.

Imagine what strength and faith I would have if I let my darkest and hardest times produce faith that outweighed the pain. If I were fully persuaded of God's power in spite of the difficulties, what could be raised our of that?

My purpose in life is not health, wealth, and prosperity. It is not to live a pain and trouble free life. It is to bring God glory. If He can use my suffering to do this, then so be it.

The Multitude of My Anxieties

"In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul."

-Psalm 94:19

I have tried to ease anxiety in many different ways. Deep breathing is a good way to relax your mind and body. Progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, abdominal breathing, cue-controlled relaxation, visualization, stress management, worry control, and probably other techniques can ease the feelings of anxiety. Sometimes medication is prescribed for it as well.

But what is better than having someone just be with you? It is wonderful to be comforted and encouraged. To simply know someone has come alongside you to be there for you.

God is our Shepherd, our Rock, our Shield, our Defender. I take comfort in knowing He has my back and is working all things together for good. He is there, beside me, walking with me every step of my journey. I am not alone. I do not have to be afraid. I am well taken care of by my good, good Father.

All This Time

All this time, Asking why
Why this pain, why this way
I would cry
Down a road, With no hope
How to pray, when afraid
With heart of stone

Then a sudden flood of grace
Washed my fear away

Now I know, In my soul
There is love that never will let go
I was chosen, While yet broken
To be free, to be me, to be whole

Heavy heart, Torn apart
Are you worn, Are you scorned
Are you scarred
Come find rest, Come be blessed
Time to heal, time to feel
And breathe again

You can know, In your soul
There is love that never will let go
You were chosen, while yet broken
You can see, can be free,
Can be whole

True joy and peace await
For those who have the faith

Now we know, in our souls
There is love that never
Will let go
We were chosen, while yet broken
Now we see, we are free
We are whole

All this time, still don't know why
But through pain, there's a way
He hears your cry
