Stop and Listen

"And He said, 'Go out an stand on the mount before the Lord' and behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a sound of gentle stillness and] a still, small voice." - 1 Kings 19:11-12

The enemy's lies are bold and loud in our minds. Our worries drown our everything positive in our thoughts. Yet God is not in the loud and boisterous lies. He is in the gentle truth.

Do we stop and meditate on His word and just listen, or do we rush to our next worry? If we do not slow down our minds, focus on him, and be still and listen, I am afraid we will miss any and everything He is trying to tell us.

Stop and listen.

What's on your mind?

"Whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]." - Philippians 4:8b

"What's on your mind?" my fiancé will ask me as I stare off into nothing in particular. This is a good question to ask myself. What am I thinking about? Is it negative and self-centered, or is it praiseworthy and lovely?

Am I criticizing myself or am I thinking of myself as God thinks of me? Am I blaming others for things instead of rightly taking on the responsibility that I may be doing or thinking something that keeps me in a pit?

Our thoughts can change so many things-our attitudes, reactions and choices all hing on "what's on your mind?"

Run Victoriously

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge cloud of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." - Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)

Training and discipline entail intentional decisions. So we must be intentional with our thoughts and prayers. This is part of a spiritual discipline. We are to have renewed minds. That means throwing the weight of negative thoughts that slow us down, especially the lies the enemy throws at us that so easily trip us up. Only then can we run freely, doing what God has called us to do.

There have been so many Christians who have had victories in living the life of faith. Won't you be one?

I have hope

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." - Romans 15:13

To despair is to lose hope. SO I will not despair, though I hurt, though I may mourn.

My brain sometimes has chemical imbalances which make me tend to think I can either do any and everything that I can do nothing and have no hope.

I will fight back against this with the truth that I am nothing without God and the truth that God has a good and perfect plan for me.

The enemy's way to deal with pain is to despair, but this is not God's way. I must align my thoughts to His truth in order to escape falling into this pit.

I have a hope and a future in the One who made me with a good and perfect plan for me to live out. Through Him, I can be victorious.

He will sustain

"Cast on the Lord whatever He sends your way, and He will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." - Psalm 55:22 (ISV)

There is so much in life I cannot bear, and if I try, I will most likely wind up dead or seriously hurt because my brain may respond with self harm thoughts or suicidal ideation. But no one can, nor should, have the weight of it all on their own shoulders. Not when you have Almighty God offering to take it on His shoulders, come alongside you and see you through.

How do we accomplish this? By surrendering through prayer. Surrendering our hold of the pain or burden or whatever it is. Surrender our thinking that we can or should or must handle it all on our own.

When my anxieties build up, I picture Jesus there with me. I envision God putting His arms around me to love and protect me. I give it all, my burden, my anxieties, my pain, to God Almighty.

I Believe

"Jesus said, Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed." - Matthew 8:13

Some people may think everything can be healed through faith. And healing can happen, but what if it doesn't? I believe faith can be strong, probably the strongest when it does not come, because now one has to have enough faith to rest in God's will and not their own.

As Jesus prayed "Let this cup be taken from me, but not my will but Yours be done" may I pray likewise. Jesus did not avoid suffering, nor did He come to vanquish it from the earth. Instead, He became part of a suffering world and allows it to continue.

And suffering draws people toward Him time and time again. Persecution leads to revival time and time again. Trials can lead to greater faith. So what we need is not the absence of pain and suffering, but faith to trust and grace to endure.

Why?

"Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, my Help and my God." - Psalm 42:5

When I am so low, I do not even feel worthy of life, I turn to Him who gives me worth. I fight back against my own mind and strive to take my thoughts captive, through His strength, filtering my thoughts through His truth.

When my spirit moans and cannot take any more, he is my Help. I can cease striving on my own and realize He is God. He is all-powerful. He is in charge. And He has good plans for me.

His purpose can take the worst things in my life and use them for His glory as I touch the lives of others with my story. So I trust in Him. I hope in Him. I wait expecting Him to do a mighty work in me.

Who needs to hear your story?
